I love going out for lunch! Love it! Have you noticed though a lot of places have a different menu for lunch and dinner? Lunch is usually burgers, nachos etc, which I like once in awhile but would prefer more choices from a dinner menu. Well, I found that option at The Coach Stop Restaurant! Wonderful place for dinner and lunch! Let me back up a bit and share my experience starting from the front door….
Enter, into a welcoming restaurant. The comfortable, cozy, classy atmosphere begins at the front door and entrance room. The Coach Stop is pretty enough already, but with all the Christmas decorations and lights they have set up this time of year, it makes it an inviting place where you want to stay.
The Coach Stop Restaurant is one of the oldest structures in Londonderry, constructed in 1810, this 12 room colonial has nine fireplaces. It served as the original homestead of the prominent Dr. Watson. In the late 1800?s it was converted to a tavern and served as a stagecoach stop known then as Plummer’s Tavern. Guests were greeted in the “Common Room” located in the northwest corner of the original house. Marks on the wide pine flooring show signs of where the original bar was located. In 1990, the property was purchased by The McDonough Family and operated as The Homestead for twenty years. Today, The Steve McDonough Family and dedicated staff open their doors as “The Coach Stop Restaurant and Tavern”. Offering you a glimpse of the past while serving fine food and beverage.
We were greeted and brought through the hallways and other dining rooms to the front porch dining area. My mom chose one of the specialty teas. Our bread consisted of warm rolls and a pumpkin bread. The pumpkin bread was perfect with a cup of tea.
The menu had a vast amount of choices from steak and fish, to burgers and salads. They also had a few tasty specials to choose from as well. Their prices were very reasonable! The salmon special that they had that day was only $8.99! I was so on the fence of what to order, but in the end I went with the Baked Scallops. Mom went with Chicken Alfredo with Broccoli.
My scallops were cooked just right with the perfect amount of breadcrumbs on them. I’ve had scallops before where they were overcooked at another restaurant, nothing worse than that. The portion was just enough. I actually could have stopped eating a little early but they were too good to leave behind.
My mom’s Chicken Alfredo Broccoli did not skimp with the chicken. It was creamy and yummy. Yes, I had to try hers too. I thought the broccoli was a little light for the portion size, though I’m not a big broccoli fan, so it would have been a perfect accent for me. Those who like broccoli, may want to request a little more to the dish.
We both enjoyed our meal and certainly would return. We’re trying to get back before Christmas.
