So, are there good coupons and not so good coupons? Well, quick answer is yes, indeed. I would much prefer a $0.75 coupon off of one item that will double than a $1.00/4 coupon!
The thing is there are times when stores have Catalina deals and instant savings deals on top of sales. When that happens, we know that we’re going to save some extra money and sometimes even that $1/4 coupon is helpful!
At one point, Shaw’s had a B1G1 sale going on for Kleenex tissues. I purchased the 120 count with lotion (this is the big box). They were $2.00 each. I was getting 8 boxes. So, regular price would have been $16.00 but the sale brought it down to $8.00. I did have a coupon that was $1.00 off of 4 (which doesn’t sound good but it was helping to bring this price down). I used 2 of those bringing my cost down to $6.00. I paid $6.00 for my 8 boxers of tissues….BUT WAIT, with my receipt I received a $3.00 off your next shopping trip and a $2.00 off your next shopping trip.
Guess what I did…..yep, I bought 8 more boxes of tissues. Don’t worry they had a ton and it was the last day of the sale and it was 9PM. So, I bought 8 more boxes, came to $16.00, sale brought it down to $8.00, I used 2 more $1/4 coupons bringing it down to $6.00. Now I used my $3.00 and my $2.00 and I only paid $1.00 for 8 boxes of tissues. I got my receiptand another $3.00 off and $2.00 off. I did this transaction one more time. and then with my “FREE” money, I picked up a package of meat that had a managers special coupon on it of $3.00. I got my roast that night for free!

In my cart that night I had 24 boxes of Kleenex and 1 pot roast and look how much it ended up costing me out of pocket……$8.00!!!!
When we have a not so good coupon and we can combine it with a sale and a Catalina or instant saving deal going on, it makes that not so good looking coupon look pretty good after all.
