Foxwoods Resort Casino is a perfect getaway for couples. My husband won a trip to Hawaii from his work. Long story short we weren’t going. But having a babysitter in place, we were going somewhere. I looked online for different trips, we thought of going to Florida, but I really just didn’t want to plan anything. Paul, my husband, suggested going to Foxwood Resort Casino. I’ve been there a couple times and thought it was fun, but wasn’t sure about staying there for four days. Paul showed me online that not only was there the casino, but there was a pool, spa, plenty of restaurants, live entertainment and even bowling and a museum. Looking on their site I was really excited about the idea of going. I was thrilled that the fun was all right there in one place, I didn’t have to plan anything for once. I loved the sound of that and we booked our stay.
Paul takes trips to Foxwoods Resort Casino several times a year so he gets a lot of promos in the mail for special room rates with Foxwoods Rewards. Heading to Foxwoods Sunday-Thursday will have lower rates than on the weekend. If rooms are available, sometimes you can get a free upgrade to the room if you ask when you check in.
We were so excited about our getaway that we were on the road at 8am after dropping the kids off at school. When we checked into the room in the afternoon we were delighted to hear Foxwoods upgraded our room to a suite. All the rooms are nice and very comfortable, but I loved our suite on the 29th floor. We stayed in the Fox Tower, formally known as the MGM. We were greeted by an amazing art piece on our window. It was drawn by Michael Gaudreau who was assisted by Sue Evarts and Pattie Loveday Peacock. Every time I walked past the drawing I felt so special that they put that together for me! What a creative personal touch. The concierge has an amazing team of talent and if you’re celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion, you can request a special personal message for your room when you book your stay.
Disclosure: Extreme Coupon Professors did receive a dinner reservation to David Burke Prime and Paragon Restaurants and received spa services in exchange for a review. We also received one night free and an upgrade to the suite from Foxwoods Resorts as well. As always all opinions are our own and are not swayed because of an exchange. We aim to bring our readers truthful reviews to help them plan their getaways.
Our suite was lovely and spacious and windows were everywhere. Whenever I’m staying someplace for more than a day, I’m happy to get a living room as we had in our suite. The beds were so comfortable and there were plenty of pillows. The bathroom was what I dream of having in my own house. I love bubble baths and this whirlpool tub was a treat. I would be sure to treat myself to a bubble bath or salt bath everyday while I was there. Being on the 29th floor, I was thankful for a window that I could look out of and enjoy the skyline sunset.
During our stay, of course we played in the casino, but we also enjoyed the indoor swimming pool at the G Spa. For all the times Paul had been to Foxwoods, he had never been to the pool area and said he had missed out for sure. It was amazing! This pool is for 21 and older. There is a heated pool and a very large whirlpool. The men’s and ladies rooms have their own lounge areas, steam room, whirl pool and sauna. The men’s lounge area even had flat screen TVs. As soon as you head in and receive your own robe and slippers, you feel pampered! In the summer they have a deck with chairs so you can enjoy the sun and all year you can order food and drinks at your leisure.
Serenity Time at G Spa:
It’s time for some treatments at the G Spa! We enjoyed our pool time and in the afternoon I slipped away for some spa treatments. I experienced my first body wrap. The Milk and Honey Body Scrub and Wrap was wonderful. My skin felt so refreshed and still does days after. The whole scrub experience is refreshing and Keri definitely does her job well! The products they used left my skin smelling fresh and feeling smooth. The entire spa experience was red carpet appeal. When Keri walked me to our room, we walked down a dimmed hallway lined with pink rose petals. G Spa thought of every detail to ensure we feel pampered, relaxed and catered to.
Red Carpet Treatment at G Spa:
Paul and I were heading to the classy steak restaurant that evening, but before I slipped into my cocktail dress, I was getting my makeup and hair done by Missy at the G Spa. I let her have full reign. I was due for a cut and was wanting a color and she agreed I needed both. One thing I appreciated was the time she took to see how my daily routine played out. She didn’t want to give me a cut that required a lot of time if I only had 10 minutes to get ready most mornings. My makeup looked beautiful for my evening out. I couldn’t wait for my date with my hunny!
David Burke Prime Steakhouse :
David Burke Prime is an amazing steakhouse. Dinner was so delicious! The staff at David Burke Prime was very friendly. The atmosphere is a place where you can dress up as we did or you can wear jeans and a nice shirt. Paul knew what he was getting but I couldn’t decide so I went 100% with the recommendation of Ray, our waiter. Oh, my gosh, I can’t wait to go back! I hadn’t had a popover since I was in England 20 years ago; loved every bite! Yes, I ate the entire huge popover! The wedge salad had a think maple bacon on it; anyone would enjoy it. I sipped on my Pineapple Upside Down Cake Martini until my dinner came. The aged steaks cut with a butter knife. I am not kidding. And you would think I couldn’t fit another bite of anything in me, but I just had to try the “Drunken” Ricotta Doughnuts for dessert. I savored every bite of my meal! I enjoyed the food so much that I bought David Burke’s New American Classics cookbook to try out some of his creative recipes at home. David Burke Prime is a fine steakhouse which offers mouthwatering steaks. Every table receives a childhood favorite at their end of their meal; cotton candy. David grew up on the Jersey Shore and brought to the table some of his childhood memories. Love the personal touch, it brings a smile to everyone’s face!
The Paragon restaurant is the ultimate gourmet dining experience. I wanted our last night to be special, I wanted a romantic atmosphere feel. Walking off the elevator and hearing the piano at the piano bar, I knew we chose the right place. We were seated by the window and had magnificent views as we dined by the soft light of the restaurant. The waitstaff was very professional and took their time explaining the gourmet choices. I started with the Lobster Bisque which was worthy of every compliment. Paul ordered the Alaskan King Crab Legs, they melted in your mouth. We later learned from Chef Scott, that the Alaskan King Crab Legs had been overnighted directly from the Time Bandit Boat from The Deadliest Catch TV series. Our family loves watching that show and I knew my kids were going to think that was coolest thing ever. Quite honestly, I did too. Our seafood choices for our entrees lived up to the expectation that our waiter had described. I ordered a light dessert for myself but the popular dessert throughout the restaurant was the Banana Foster that was dramatically created in front the guests. The pianist, Jack, played during the night and took requests as well. One couple who sat close by to us were celebrating their anniversary. They have been going to the Paragon for their anniversary for the last 12 years. When they were leaving, they told the waiter they’d see him next year, same time, same place. What a perfect pleasurable evening we had.
Live Entertainment and Main Events:
There was plenty to do in the evenings. We also found a live band playing that night at center court. All week they had different live bands with no cover charge. Foxwoods does have comedy shows, dance clubs and Main Stage Events. Big names are lined up for the Main Stage such as Miley Sirus April 25, Don Rickles April 24, Bill Maher May 4, TruTV IMPRACTICAL JOKERS TOUR May 9,10. These are just a few of the big names that will be performing. You can see all upcoming performances and purchase your tickets online for all shows at Foxwoods.com.
Our getaway was wonderful. No, it wasn’t Hawaii, but I had no regrets whatsoever. Paul and I were looking for a fun time away and I appreciated that all the fun was at one resort. I had packed my bags to go there and didn’t worry about what I was going to do. The fun was brought to me for once. With busy households these days and always having to plan, I know you understand where I’m coming from.
Reality hit hard when we got home, we got a phone call from one of the kids teachers for behavior, a message had been left on my answering machine about another of my sons thinking he was funny with a not so funny prank, we had to run out the door to bring another kiddo to practice and as usual we were out of milk, bread and everyone was asking what was for dinner. Paul and I just looked at each other, actually laughed and said, “Well, we know we’re home….” The good thing is Foxwoods isn’t far and now that we discovered so much more to do, we already have our next trip planned to go back in June before the kids get out of school. Paul will most likely get into a poker tournament and I’ll be getting my hair done and then bask in the sun with my book and music. We hope to hit a live show too! I cannot wait!
We hope you enjoyed our review and you’ll see too it’s a great place to plan your getaway whether just for yourself, you and your spouse or for a girls or guys getaway! It’s a blast, you too will be planning your next trip even before you’re checked out.
