I’d like to add this post to our series to help us really focus in on when to get those airline tickets. I was watching a NBS Nightly News segment called The Price You Pay and they gave us some valuable information!
Top Stategies To Save Money:
Start looking at airfares 3 months before travel– Don’t procrastinate. The examples of flight costs going to the same place had gigantic differences when booked at different calendar time. No matter what you do, avoid buying tickets 7 days within departure. This is when business travelers will pass top dollar so you’ll never see deals.
Make a connection: While most people prefer to fly nonstop, you can sometimes save up to 50% by catching a connecting flight or have a layover. You are sacrificing time for possibly huge savings.
Book your flight a certain time of the week: There is a day of the week and time of day when buying airline tickets saves you the most money. Tuesdays at 3PM- this is right after airlines cut fares and competitors match prices on as many as 20,000 flights a day.
If you fly before breakfast, during lunch or dinner you can save even more because planes are less full.
The cheapest days to fly: Tuesday, Wednesdays and Saturday. These are days when there are fewer business travelers.
The most expensive times to fly are Sundays and during the holidays.
